BOOKBINDING
I picked up bookbinding a few years ago as a hobby. Learning through internet tutorials and publications on the subject, I've been testing out my skill with new projects, and have been using the hobby to make gifts for my friends and family. If you're interested in bookbinding and have tips for me—or want some advice on how to start—I'd love to hear from you!
450: FOR DANIEL—
I put my binding experience to work for my friend
Daniel Lam. Although I can't take credit for the content of this book, which is about 50 ways to use a cat, the binding was all me.
Hardcover bind with silk headband and sandy pastedowns. Includes a little watercolour of my cat that I did for the "guest illustrations" section.
NOTEBOOK FOR VICKY—4x5" blank notebook. Japanese paper (over coverstock) cover. Bound using an exposed stitch with off-white paper. Given to Vicky on her 22nd birthday.
NOTEBOOK FOR A NEW FRIEND—I made this book and posted it up on tumblr, offering it to the first person who direct messaged me asking for it. I shipped it to Zachary in Victoria, and we've since become internet friends, which is adorable. Half-letter, custom-lined paper, thread-bound. Coverstock and recycled paper cover sewn on through signatures with little Xs.
NOTEBOOK FOR MIKAELA—Soft-cover exposed-stich blank notebook. Half-letter size. Coverstock and recycled paper cover. Mailed to Mikaela in Guelph to encourage creative writing. Inscription reads: "Never stop making, living, being."
